Root Galaxy J7, J5 and J3 Marshmallow update

It has been a year since Google officially released the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update, but there are still a lot of Android devices out there which are yet to be updated. And if you ask us, we’d guess a majority of these devices to be of Samsung. Phew!

Only recently Samsung released the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to some of its mid-range devices from 2015, the Galaxy J7, J5 and J3. Considering the efforts Samsung put in promoting these devices, we’d have appreciated if it had also put efforts to release the Marshmallow update early.

Anyway, now that Marshmallow update is available for the Galaxy J7, J5 and J3, you might want to know how to get root on the newer firmware versions before installing the update.

Thankfully, the latest SuperSU zip with systemless root works for Marshmallow releases by Samsung. So, to get root on your J series devices, all you gotta do is get a custom recovery like TWRP installed and then flash the SuperSU zip to get root access.

You can get the TWRP recovery for your device either officially from TeamWin’s website, look here: twrp.me/devices OR unofficially at xda forums.

How to Root Galaxy J7, J5 and J3 Marshmallow Update
  1. Get TWRP recovery .tar file for your device from either TeamWin’s website or XDA forums.
  2. Install TWRP recovery .tar file using Odin.
  3. Boot into TWRP recovery and take a full backup (optional) from the recovery options.
  4. Flash SuperSU zip and get root.

That’s it. Enjoy root access on your freshly updated device.
